I was a little skeptical about how a CS major like me would fit in a hundred year old forestry company when I first learned about Weyerhaeuser career opportunities at a UW career fair last year. My internship helped me to discover a brand new career path that I had never considered before. That is IT.

My internship assignment was with Identity-Access Management Team. My team provided me with numerous opportunities which strengthened my existing technical knowledge and helped me gain new knowledge that I wouldn’t have learned in a classroom setting. I’m currently developing web tools and working with my mentor in maintaining our team website.

What do you enjoy about coming to work each day at WY?

I have a supportive team and a group of fabulous interns. Everyone is available when I need their assistance and they care about the work I do. The work culture is laid-back, open and inclusive. I felt like I was a member from the day I started my internship and career here at Weyerhaeuser. The intern group, especially, is the center of fun for exciting social events.

What inspires you at work?

Weyerhaeuser provides an environment that promotes and encourages employee growth and advancement. Everyday is a day to learn something new. I am surrounded by knowledgeable colleagues whom I could shadow and learn from; as an intern, this is what excites me. The internship program offers numerous opportunities to explore the great variety of career paths here at Weyerhaeuser. I can pursue any one of them, instead of being cast into a particular role.

What does Lead, Perform, Invent, Grow mean to you?

It’s about taking advantage of opportunities for improvement and making it happen. Weyerhaeuser has provided a lot of these opportunities for me during my internship. It’s awesome that a company cares about its employees and their growth.
